Before / After
From mixed product photos to consistent eBay listing photos.
Product photos from different sources often use inconsistent dimensions, backgrounds and framing. Image Fixer puts them on a consistent square canvas while keeping the full product visible.

Supplier photos with mixed shapes, sizes and empty space.
eBay starting points
A practical starting point for eBay listing photos.
eBay sets a minimum photo size and gives recommendations for photo quality and backgrounds. Image Fixer can help standardize dimensions, canvas and product framing before you upload your images.
1600 × 1600 px
Recommended size
eBay recommends images around 1600 × 1600 px for high-quality listing photos. Image Fixer's eBay preset uses 1600 × 1600 px as a practical starting point.
500 px
500 px minimum
eBay requires listing photos to be at least 500 pixels on the longest side.
Neutral
Clean background
eBay recommends an uncluttered neutral background. White is generally a safe choice, although it is not mandatory for every product.
Centered
Product-focused framing
Center the item, keep it fully visible and make it fill the frame appropriately without cutting off important parts.
1600 × 1600 px is eBay's current recommended high-quality image size, not its minimum requirement. The minimum is 500 pixels on the longest side. For other platforms, see the Image Fixer homepage, the Shopify Image Resizer, the Amazon Product Image Resizer or the Etsy Image Resizer.

eBay product image sizes, requirements and best practices
Preparing product photos for eBay involves more than simply making every image the same size.
Image resolution, main-photo quality, framing, background, file format and eBay's picture policies can all affect how a listing is presented to shoppers.
This guide summarizes eBay's current official photo requirements and recommendations and explains where Image Fixer can help before you upload your images.

eBay requires listing photos to be at least 500 pixels on the longest side. eBay recommends higher-resolution images around 1600 × 1600 px. Image Fixer's existing 1600 × 1600 px eBay preset follows that current recommendation as a practical square starting point.
What size should eBay product images be?
eBay requires listing photos to be at least 500 pixels on the longest side.
For better image quality, eBay currently recommends images around 1600 × 1600 pixels.
Image Fixer's eBay preset uses 1600 × 1600 px, which provides a practical high-resolution square starting point based on eBay's current recommendation.
The distinction matters:
- Minimum requirement
- 500 pixels on the longest side
- eBay's current recommendation
- Around 1600 × 1600 px for high-quality listing images
1600 × 1600 px should therefore not be described as a mandatory image dimension for every eBay listing.
Does eBay require square product images?
No.
eBay does not require every listing photo to use a square aspect ratio.
eBay's current seller guidance says that photos using a 1:1 or 16:9 aspect ratio generally look best across listings, search results and other placements.
Image Fixer's eBay preset uses a 1:1 square canvas because it provides a consistent product catalog presentation and matches one of the aspect ratios eBay currently recommends.
This is a practical starting point, not a requirement that every eBay image must be square.
Why the main eBay photo matters
The first image added to an eBay listing becomes the main photo.
eBay displays this image next to the listing title in search results, making it especially important for how the item is first presented to potential buyers.
eBay recommends that the main photo show the whole item face-on.
The product should be centered, clearly visible and accurately represented.
For a single-item listing, eBay also advises that the main photo should not show additional variations that are not part of the item being sold.
Additional photos can then show different angles, details, features, labels, textures, wear or imperfections.
How many photos can an eBay listing have?
eBay currently allows up to 24 photos in a listing.
Using multiple photos gives buyers more opportunities to inspect the product from different angles and understand its condition.
eBay specifically recommends showing different views and including close-up photos of flaws, scratches, wear or other imperfections when relevant.
Image Fixer processes up to 30 images in one batch, so one batch can prepare the complete photo allowance for a standard eBay listing.
Image Fixer does not upload the images to eBay or determine their final listing order.
Do eBay product photos need a white background?
Not always.
eBay recommends photographing products in an uncluttered space against a neutral background.
A plain white background is generally a safe choice because it keeps attention on the item.
However, eBay also notes that a darker background can sometimes work better for shiny or reflective products, such as jewelry.
The correct background therefore depends partly on the product.
Image Fixer provides White, Auto and Custom background canvas options to help standardize the area around a source photo.
Important: Image Fixer does not automatically remove an existing photographic background.
If the original source image already contains a visible background around the product, that background remains part of the source image.
How should a product be framed for eBay?
eBay recommends making the item the focal point of the image.
The product should be centered and should fill the frame as much as practical while remaining clearly and fully visible.
This does not mean every product should be scaled to exactly the same percentage.
Different products and source photos can contain different amounts of surrounding space.
Image Fixer's Product Size control lets you adjust how large each source photo appears inside the output canvas.
You can apply a common size across a batch and fine-tune individual images when one product needs different framing.
Why equal dimensions don't always create consistent eBay photos
Two eBay images can both be 1600 × 1600 px and still look inconsistent.
One item may fill most of its image while another appears much smaller because its original photograph contains more empty space.
Image dimensions define the canvas.
Product framing determines how large the item appears inside that canvas.
Image Fixer helps standardize both the output canvas and the visual framing of source photos.
This can be useful when preparing images from different suppliers, cameras, older listings or product catalogs.
Can you resize eBay images without stretching them?
Yes.
Image Fixer preserves the proportions of the original source photo when placing it inside the selected output canvas.
Portrait and landscape source images therefore do not need to be distorted to become square outputs.
When the source aspect ratio does not match the output canvas, Image Fixer uses the surrounding canvas area instead of stretching the source photograph.
What image file types does eBay accept?
eBay's current photo uploader documentation lists these accepted image formats:
- JPEG
- PNG
- GIF
- TIFF
- BMP
- WEBP
- HEIC
- AVIF
Image Fixer exports JPEG, PNG and WebP, all of which are currently included in eBay's accepted image-format list.
For ordinary product photography, JPEG is a practical option when you want efficient file sizes for photographic images.
PNG can be useful when your workflow specifically needs PNG output.
WebP is also currently accepted by eBay according to its photo uploader documentation.
What is the maximum eBay image file size?
eBay's current listing-photo documentation states that its photo uploader accepts image files up to 12 MB each.
Image dimensions and file size are different measurements.
A 1600 × 1600 px image can have very different file sizes depending on the image content, file format and compression.
If an exported image exceeds eBay's upload limit, additional file-size optimization may be required before upload.
Should you enlarge a small eBay product image?
Avoid relying on enlargement to repair a poor-quality source image.
eBay recommends high-resolution photos that are clear rather than blurry or pixelated and notes that small photos can become blurry when enlarged.
Changing a small image to a 1600 × 1600 px canvas does not create photographic detail that was missing from the source.
Whenever possible, begin with the highest-quality original product photo available.
Image Fixer can standardize dimensions and presentation, but it cannot restore missing photographic detail.
Can eBay product photos contain text, logos or watermarks?
eBay's current picture policy does not allow added borders, text, artwork, marketing material or watermarks in listing photos.
eBay's seller guidance also warns that graphics, logos and watermarks can affect how images appear in search and third-party search results.
For standard listing photography, keep promotional messaging outside the product image itself.
Image Fixer does not add promotional text, logos, marketing badges or watermarks to product photos.
Can you use stock photos for used eBay items?
eBay's current picture policy does not allow stock photos for used, damaged or defective items.
Photos should accurately represent the actual item being sold.
For used products, buyers may need to see the item's real condition, including wear, scratches, damage or other imperfections.
eBay recommends using additional close-up images to show these details clearly.
Image Fixer can prepare the dimensions and presentation of those photos, but it does not determine whether a particular image is appropriate under eBay's item-condition policies.
Can product photos affect eBay search visibility?
Yes, image quality is part of eBay's seller guidance for creating visible and effective listings.
eBay recommends high-quality product photos when explaining how sellers can optimize listings for Best Match.
eBay also warns against adding borders, text or graphics to product photos.
However, images are only one part of eBay search performance.
Listing category, item specifics, title, price, shipping, seller performance and other listing information can also matter.
Image Fixer helps prepare product images, but it does not guarantee eBay rankings, search visibility or sales.
