The formats

WebP and JPG, explained.

  • What is WebP?

An image format developed by Google for the web. It supports lossy and lossless compression and transparency, and often produces smaller files than JPG or PNG.

  • What is JPG?

JPG (JPEG) is one of the most widely supported image formats. It uses lossy compression and works well for photographs, but it does not support transparency.

Good to know

When converting WebP to JPG makes sense.

  • Wider compatibility

Some older software, email tools, upload forms and print services accept JPG but not WebP.

  • Transparent backgrounds

Transparent pixels are flattened onto white, since JPG cannot store transparency.

  • Quality and size

Conversion does not improve quality, and the JPG may be larger than the WebP. Dimensions stay exactly the same.

Questions

WebP to JPG questions

Is this WebP to JPG converter free?

Yes. It is free to use and does not require an account or sign-up.

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. Conversion happens in your browser on your own device. Your images are not uploaded to an Image Fixer server for processing.

How many WebP images can I convert at once?

You can convert up to 50 WebP images in one batch. Multiple images are downloaded together as a ZIP file.

Will the image dimensions change?

No. Each JPG keeps the same width and height in pixels as the original WebP image. Nothing is cropped, resized or stretched.

What happens to transparent areas?

JPG does not support transparency, so transparent pixels are placed on a white background during conversion.

Does converting WebP to JPG improve quality?

No. Conversion cannot add detail that is not in the original. JPG is a lossy format, so the result is re-encoded at a high quality setting (92%) to keep visible changes minimal.

Will the JPG file be smaller than the WebP?

Usually not. WebP often compresses more efficiently than JPG, so the JPG may be larger. File size depends on the image.

What should you do after converting WebP to JPG?

Converting a file format does not fix cropping or image dimensions. Use the image resizer to set dimensions, or the image compressor if you need to reduce file size.
