The basics
Resizing images, explained.
What does resizing mean?
Resizing changes how many pixels an image has. The whole picture is kept — it is simply drawn at a new width and height.
Width and height
Width is the number of pixels across, height the number of pixels down. A 2000 × 1600 image is 2000 pixels wide and 1600 tall.
Pixels vs. percentages
Pixels give you an exact size, such as 1200 px wide. Percentages scale from the original: 50% of 2000 × 1600 is 1000 × 800.
Why aspect ratio matters
The aspect ratio is the relation between width and height. Changing one without the other stretches or squashes the picture.
Resize without distortion
Keep the lock on and change only one dimension. The other is calculated from the original proportions and rounded to whole pixels.
Resizing vs. cropping
Resizing scales the whole image. Cropping cuts parts away. This tool only resizes — nothing is cut off and no background is added.
Good to know
When and how to resize.
Websites
Large camera photos slow pages down. Resizing to the width your layout actually displays keeps pages fast.
Social media and ecommerce
Platforms and stores often recommend specific dimensions. Exact pixel sizes help your images display consistently.
Quality and file size
Fewer pixels usually means a smaller file. Enlarging adds pixels but not detail, so upscaled images can look soft.

Questions
Resize image questions
How do I resize an image without stretching it?
Keep the aspect ratio lock on. When you change the width, the height is calculated from the original proportions (and the other way round), so the image is never distorted.
Can I resize multiple images at once?
Yes. Upload up to 50 images, then use Apply All. Percentages are calculated from each image's own original size, and a fixed width or height keeps each image's own proportions while the lock is on.
Can I resize images to exact pixel dimensions?
Yes. Type the width and height in pixels. Turn the aspect ratio lock off if you need an exact size with different proportions — the image will then be stretched to fit.
Does resizing reduce image quality?
Making an image smaller removes pixels, so fine detail is reduced but the image usually stays sharp. Making an image larger cannot add detail, so it can look soft. JPG and WebP files are re-encoded at high quality (92%).
Can I resize PNG images with transparency?
Yes. PNG and WebP images stay in their original format and keep their transparent areas. Only JPG files, which do not support transparency, are saved without it.
Will my file format change?
No. JPG stays JPG, PNG stays PNG and WebP stays WebP. Resized files get a “-resized” suffix in their filename.
Is Image Fixer free?
Yes. The resize tool is free to use and does not require an account or sign-up.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. Resizing happens in your browser on your own device. Your images are not uploaded to an Image Fixer server for processing.
